The Proposal

Buying an Engagement Ring

INSURE YOUR NEW RING AND DIAMOND

Second Reminder for you, Many forget to do this

After you make the final purchase, ask your Jeweler for an appraisal so you can insure the Engagement Ring.  You should also make sure that any lab report information should be on your appraisal, such as a GIA Report.  You should insure your ring and diamond for "all Perils"such as loss, damage or mysterious dissapearence.

You can add the ring to your homeowners policy, or renters insurance.   You can also look into specialized Jewelry Policies such as the one provided by Jewelers Mutual.

You may want to scan or take pictures of all the receipts, lab reports, and appraisals for future reference.

ARE YOU ASKING FOR PERMISSION OR BLESSING FROM ANYONE BEFORE YOU PROPOSE ?

Second Reminder for you on this one as well â€‹

There is the old tradition of asking the permission or blessing from her father !  This tradition is still done today.   You can Do this after you purchase the ring, but it is put here for you to start thinking about When, How, and Where !

AND Don't Forget if you plan to do this !

THE PROPOSAL

This is as important as any of the other steps (Maybe even more).  How you propose can make it romantic and memorable.   It also shows her that you feel that it is a very special moment, and deserves your extra attention to details.

You can pick a place and time that may have special significance to your relationship.   The place can be the first date, or where you met, or a favorite place, a monument.     The time can be a anniversary of some sort, or an event that is happening to one or both of you, such as a graduation, new job, new home, a relocation.  It could also be a Birthday or Holiday that family and friends might be more easily available.

Some have arranged to have family and friends present or even involved in the proposal, some arrange for a photographer or videographer, some have done a complete proposal journey.
